Symposium
by Mālik ibn Jinnī

Come, heralds, heed the call!
Come to the Symposium! To experience, and to ponder
On charges, on creatures, on chevrons and fesses.
Learn from the wise. Words shall awhile
Teach truly of this great art.
Scribes shall write, in hands simple or strange.
Armory old or new, names also,
Will give the delight of learning, the heart-leap of knowing!
Then, classes finished, to find our fellows
And put names to faces. From far and from near
We'll be gathered together. Glad the meeting,
The telling of tales, until night falls.
Then sad we our separate ways shall go.
Until next year, with renewed talk of names and armory,
In some other place, where honorable heralds shall meet.
